The first seminar, inspired by the Society for Science & the Public in the USA, was organised by the Swedish Federation of Young Scientists in 1976. Since then, SIYSS has been successfully popularising science among young people, offering events with cultural and educational potential. The programme aims to promote international understanding and friendship by bringing together young people from around the world with similar interests. All participants are between the ages of 18-25 and are selected at international science fairs and by top ranking universities based on their extraordinary research efforts.
