As the organiser, we provide airport transfers. There will be a person from the organising team at the airports on 8.09 and 9.09 directing you to buses that will take you directly to your hotel.

Participants and chaperones are checked into the Mercure Katowice Centrum Hotel. The hotel is 1 km from the Expo site – a distance that can be covered on foot in 10-15 minutes. Please note – the market square in Katowice is currently under reconstruction, but this does not significantly impede the route.

For those with mobility problems – we will try to provide transport. A tram (1 stop) is also available on this route.

Participants are accommodated in double rooms. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel. There is also an on-site gym available for guests. Check-in is from 15.00 (but the hotel will try to make rooms available to you before then). Check-out by 12.00 pm.

*Note – Individuals paying for their own accommodation and wishing to receive an invoice are requested to indicate this at check-in.

The presentations of the projects will take place in the building of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) in Katowice. Address: 1 Wojciech Kilar Square, Katowice.

From 9.09 onwards it will be possible to register and prepare stands. The building will be open until 8.00 pm (or longer if required). Registration and arrangement of stands will also be possible on 10.09 before the opening gala (from 6.00).

If you will need support in moving / transporting items – please address this matter directly to the student helper assigned to each delegation.

Each national delegation will be assigned people – student helpers – who will be there to assist if needed. These are people familiar with the venue and the specifics of EUCYS – often participants from previous years – so feel free to approach them with needs and problems. On 9.09 and 10.09 the student helpers will be waiting for you at the hotel to show you the way to the building where the expo takes place.

The detailed rules of the EUCYS competition can be found on the European Commission website (link).

The currency of Poland is the zloty. In the center of Katowice you will find exchange offices without any problems. At the same time – in practically every place you can pay by card.

The official language is Polish, but you can also easily communicate in English.

Plugs / contacts in Poland are 220v type E compatible with type F.

Breakfast will be served at the hotel (on weekdays from 6.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., on weekends from 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.). – The hours given in the agenda are therefore a suggestion for the daily schedule.

Lunches will be served at the Expo venue (NOSPR) on 10-12.09 and at the Silesian Museum on 13.09. Dinners will be in various forms: 9.09 – foodtrucks at the University of Silesia, 10.09 – dinner in the restaurant at the Silesian Planetarium, 11.09 – dinner after a trip to the Guido Mine, 12.09 – foodtrucks on the University campus, 13.09 – banquet after the award gala at the Silesian Museum and refreshments during the event at the Kingdom pub.

Lunches will be served buffet style. Meals taking into account vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets, as well as allergies to nuts and seafood (and other allergies notified at registration).

Drinking water dispensers will be available at both the expo site (NOSPR) and the University Campus. It is advisable to bring bottles with you (participants will receive them in gift packs).

All participants are accompanied to the EU competition by their National Organiser or by an adult designated by the National Organiser. As the main contact person in all participating countries, the National Organiser provides the liaison between the participants and the EU Contest in all matters concerning the contest.

The National Organisers assume responsibility for the welfare and behaviour of their group. They:

– are legally responsible for the participants of the national delegation, in particular for underage participants;

– ensure that their group travels with adequate health, accident, and travel insurance covering them for both the trip and the duration of the Contest;

– resolve any linguistic or other problems that may arise during the Contest or in connection with related activities;

– ensure that they have taken measures to ensure that the conduct of their group remains beyond reproach.
